What counts as a limited space?
Limited space refers to areas where traditional gate systems with swing gates cannot be installed due to a lack of clearance or lateral movement. This means that any space that is considered “limited” (at least in the context of gate automation) is one that presents challenges for the swinging motion of gates or requires more lateral clearance. Some examples of this include:
Sloped driveways
Sliding gate kits are an excellent option if your driveway slopes. This is because the angle of the swinging gates in the driveway would obstruct the arc of your gates, making it difficult to open and close them. Sliding gates, on the other hand, slide along a track, allowing them to operate smoothly without any obstructions. What’s more, sliding gates take up less space than swinging gates, making them a popular choice for driveways with limited space.
Shared residential areas
Sliding gates are an excellent option if you live in shared residential spaces or close to your neighbours, like on cul-de-sacs. They are safer and more convenient than swinging gates in these scenarios because they move horizontally along the fence line instead of swinging open. This way, they don’t take up any unnecessary space or encroach onto your neighbour’s properties or driveways. Plus, they eliminate the risk of blocking access for your neighbours, or causing inconvenience during gate operation!
if your home back out onto the street
Sliding gate kits are an excellent alternative to swinging gates in places where pedestrians could be at risk of collision or obstruction, like if the end of your drive backs directly onto the street or pavement. Even if there is technically enough room for swinging gates, the potential for accidents or disruption to pedestrian flow makes sliding gates safer and more space efficient.
Why sliding gates are great for all the above
If you struggle with limited driveway space, swing gates may not always be the best option, especially if you’re looking for maximum convenience in parking. Fortunately, sliding gates provide a great solution. These gates slide to one side, freeing up space and making parking much more manageable. Sliding gates are also great for driveways with a slope, where the angle of swinging gates in the driveway would obstruct the gates’ arc.
