How you can improve the security of your electric gate

One of the best things about electric gates is the fact that they enhance the security of your home, and give you the ability to control who gets access to your property (that, of course,  and the fact that you don’t have to get out of the car to open the gate). This can afford some much appreciated peace of mind if you have kids playing out in the garden, pets or even nice cars sitting on the drive.

If you’re particularly concerned about the possibility of theft or intrusion though, there are a few things you can add on top to give them that extra boost of reliability and security if you feel like your property needs it. Sliding gates are much harder to force open than swing gates, so if this is something that concerns you and you’ve yet to choose what type of gate automation you’d like to go for, this could be the better option for you. However, if your gates are already installed and you’re looking to give them an extra boost of reliability, here are three things you can do to enhance the security of your electric gates.

Add a camera to your gates for peace of mind

Cameras have been used to enhance home security for decades, and they work just as well for your gates. Gate cameras allow you to be able to see what’s going on from the comfort of your own home, or even when you’re at work. This can be particularly handy if you’re out of the house quite a lot but still want to keep your eye on things at home. Another great feature of camera is that they can also capture important footage in the event you do encounter a security threat, like home invasion for example. Install a Mag Lock for added security

They are specifically designed to keep gates or doors secure even when under large amounts of pressure, so you can rely on these trusty bits of kit to keep your gate strong and sturdy in your absence. If an emergency arises and you need a quick exit via your gates and the locks are in use, you need only cut the power and they will immediately release. Consider anti-lift brackets

Anti-lift brackets are small pieces of metal – usually galvanised steel – that are welded to your gate to ensure that it’s tamper-proof and to prevent anyone accessing your property by lifting or removing your gate from its hinges. These are typically placed at the top and the bottom corners of your gate for added security. They can be used in tandem with other security enhancing methods too, such as mag locks. Anti-lift brackets are usually available from most home security or hardware shops.
